Summary

If selected, you will provide assistance and guidance to New World Screwworm management, ensuring a cohesive Agency approach to ensure the protection of US livestock and other animal industries.

Duties

The duties may include, but are not limited to:

Participate in the development and monitoring of Mexico and Central American screwworm surveillance and livestock movement controls

Develops and maintains relationships with international counterparts to advance screwworm eradication

Keep agency and program leadership fully informed of program activities and results

Works with NWS management to help identify pertinent information from international and domestic partners for use in the development of a national strategy and personnel deployment plans

Incumbent participates in international delegations, covering issues of animal and plant health and inspection policy, legislation, regulation, management, and cooperative, multi-disciplinary initiate

Prepares written correspondence, which includes operational plans, performance reports, briefing papers, decision memoranda, position papers, and other administrative documents for senior level audience

Qualifications

TIME-IN-GRADE: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. FOR THE GS-13 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-12 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates: Exhibiting expertise in both verbal and written communication and the ability to provide thoughtful and reliable recommendations. Building productive working relationships to track deliverables, convey sensitive and technical information, develop solutions, and provide recommendations to leadership. Utilizing qualitative and quantitative techniques, methods, processes, and practices used in the review and analysis of program planning and decision-making. Developing policies, plans, and objectives to support the success of the mission. Ability to manage workload, to develop efficient and effective processes, and to communicate with managers and staff at all levels within the organization. Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
